Comments: I remastered, its much improved. I increased the high end as it was lacking, and the bass end and the lows section was booming. It definatly improved. I changed the speed about 4% slower so it will run the right speed, so thats good. I definatly tried my best, and gave my best effort, and I hope you enjoy because I think it sounds good.

Comments: Here is a pretty okay show from the European half of the Permanent Waves tour, and a decent one we do happen to get. There is some hiss, suggesting an older source, but everything is very clear, but there seems to be some tape drag, and speed problems through most of the show, nothing distracting. Still, the best European shows from the Permanent Waves tour are On the Bar and Big Ben, though this might just be under, as it certainly does beat the first night and the fourth night at the Hammersmith Odeon. The performance is pretty good, nothing too special, but very good. The boys are a little unexciting, but that turns in a very solid and very focused show. One that you should get after you get the best shows from this awesome tour.

Hemispheres
Comments: The main reason I got this show is because its supposed to be rare, and with good reason aparently. The performance is pretty good, nothing special though. The sound is good for its era, not distant, but some distortion and bad mix make it a less then average sounding show at sometimes, but still very good for its era considering that there are millions of terrible Permanent Waves shows out there that I do not yet have, this is in the middle pack of all of the Permanent Waves shows though. This is incomplete, as there are numerous cuts, not too many distracting luckily, but we miss everything after Hemispheres. A show for the collectors.

Comments: Here is a pretty much rarer-than-usual show. The show itself is great, they give the best performance of the whole Hammersmith run, besides Fort Worth, it could be the best performance from this tour. They totally rock tonight, and it really shows. The sound really dosen't rock though. Distortion everywhere, millions of cuts, compression, and alot of tape flucuations and speed problems make this seem really unpleasent at times. You can hear things at times, but not always clearly. The best of the Hammersmith shows are The Big Ben and On the Bar, and this show does not beat it. A die-hard show.
June 7th, 1980 Rush of Hammersmith

2112 Grand Finale
Freewill
Natural Science
A Passage to Bangkok
Comments: Another incomplete show, but one of the rarest. I think that the same taper taped the first night and this night, as these shows are both master recordings. The performance is okay, not the best from this 5 night stand at the Hammersmith, but not the worst overall performance from any show of the tour (that reward can go to several other shows that I will not mention). The sound is probably the worst thing about this show though. Distortion and speed problems make this bad enough, but poor resolution and some echo add to how unpleasent this show sounds at times. There are times when thing shine though, very rarely though. A show more or so for the crazy collectors.

Comments: Here is one of the rarest shows from the Permanent Waves tour, but it has good reasons to be rare. Its the first night in Montreal, which is rare enough. This is not better than the second night sonically and soundwise, but the performance is better I think. Both performances are very strong fortunatly. The sound, distant and a little distorted, but it is very much listenable. Geddy is in a fine mood tonight. We get a very blistering version of Bangkok, which is always nice to hear. With this release, there are many cuts. 2112 overture is missing complete, 2112 Grand Finale is missing, and the first few seconds of Freewill are missing. The intro the Xanadu is missing, and some of Natural Science is missing. A verse is cut on Bangkok, and most of The Trees is missing. All of Cygnus X-1 and Hemispheres are gone, and some of Closer to the Heart has a cut in the beginning. This is missing most of the encore, and the beginning to La Villa is cut, and there is a very large tape flucuation spot at the end were the speed runs to fast, then too slow and the last 10 or 20 seconds of La Villa is also cut. A must have for the hardcore collector.

Comments: Another awesome show from this tour. It does not beat Fort Worth or the remastered version of the second night in Hammersmith, but its right under those for best audience recordings. The first 30 minutes or so are muffled, but aren't bad, so the show starts about at B+ area. By Natural Science the grade is an easy A, but I averaged those out, and made A- so it gets a bit better as the show goes on. The speed starts off slow on the first disc, but seems to clear up on the second disc. The sound overall is very good, very detailed, and there is about no distance between the recorder and the stage, as everything is clear, but the clarity isn't as strong as some other shows. A show you need to have in your collection.

Comments: Too bad this is incomplete and dosen't sound as good as some of the other shows, because the performance here is actually very nice. The sound is by no means terrible, but it is very muffled and very distant, with alot of taper talk. This is incomplete, loosing every single second of the remaining songs from the normal setlist, unfortuantly. Thats really bad because they seem to be giving one of the strongest performances of the tour. Geddy is really in a good mood tonight, and just playing really well. Alex seems fairly spirited, and Neil seems to be playing pretty well tonight. I think with all of the positives aside, this show is really only for the collectors, because of the rarity, I cannot recommend this to the casual trader.

Comments: I really like this show, and its a great Permanent Waves show on a whole. This source, unfortunatly, is incomplete, so evey song after Jacobs Ladder is missing from the show. But, this source sure does sound better than most of the European shows. There is some distortion, but the sound is huge, and the drums sound quiet good on this recording. There is a bit of taper talk here and there, but I don't think its all that bad. This show, on my standards, ties with Big Ben, but dosen't come close to shows like On the Bar or Timeless Wavelength Platinum Edition, but more or so of Setting the Course, or Distant Overture, so i think that this show is pretty damn good. A must have for the Permanent Waves lover.

Comments: A great near complete show! The sound here is pretty huge, much like the Freedom of Music boot, but this one is a tad more distant than the other, as there is a little more taper talk than the boot mentioned above. But, I think that the best thing about it is the warm bass sound, its pretty strong, but luckily never overwhelming so. The show is pretty good sounding on high volumnes, so you will get complete satifactory if you listen loudly. There are a few cuts, but the worst one happens to be in La Villa. Only the intro is here, but what is here is pretty good. The performance seems to be par for the course, but definatly not the strongest, and definatly not the weakest performance. This is one of the best sources from the tour, and I love this show, so I really have to recommend this to anyone.

Comments: Before I rant on and on about how great some Permanent Waves shows are, I would like for you to know this is the exact copy of The Three Magicians regular copy. The sound is exactly the same, which is buried in hiss but the overall production is pretty good. I do have the definative version of the show, Timeless Wavelength Platinum Edition now, and I do think that one is a definate improvement over the two magician boots. I am bitterly dissapointed with the production this because its already made.

Comments: Another excellent show from the Permanent Waves tour, and this is definatly a must have because it is one of the more rare from the whole tour. The sound is okay, its a little distant, but it is bright and there isn't too much distance or distortion that would make this an unenjoyable production. Geddy can get a bit buried in the mix at times, but I think that the mix as a whole is very good, with Alex sounding great as usual. The audience seems to be in a good mood tonight, as Geddy is as well. The performance is a hell of alot better than the 2 nights previous (03-19-80) because they seem to be much more energetic and much less flat than the previous 2 nights. This is incomplete, with 90 seconds gone of Cygnus X-1 and Hemispheres, and most of the drum solo is gone, and La Villa being cut completely. Even if this is incomplete, it is definatly a must have Permanent Waves show.

Comments: One of the best sounding shows to emerge from the Permanent Waves tour, rivaling the known soundboards in quality (well at least the 1-26-80 show is definatly beaten). The setlist here is definatly amazing, you get all of the epics and all of the hits to stable it all out. The epics are definatly shortened, but they give much more quantity than any other tour besides the "Hemispheres" tour a year or two before. The performance here is definatly excellent here as well, with amazing performances of "2112" "A Passage to Bangkok" "Hemispheres" and "La Villa Strangiato" to name just a few of the amazing songs that are played. There are the regular releases, The Three Magicians and the remastered edition, but they definatly don't match the quality of this amazing boot. The sound quality alone is outstanding, with only a little tape hiss that somewhat distracts you, but the overall music is so much more incredible. The mix is so amazing here as well, with the guitar and bass sounding incredible. The drums are a tad low in the mix, but I do think that its not too low in the mix. There is little to no distance here as well, which definatly makes this the whole show too beat. One of the best from this tour, only rivaled by Distant Overture and On the Bar in overall sound quality, but they don't beat this amazing show because of the amazing performance here and the impressive sound quality. You have to get this amazing show, because you definatly will not be dissapointed with this fantastic recording.

Comments: The only reason to get this is because of the rarity, and the great performance. The sound here says otherwise to the statement though. While the performance may be excellent, they were playing really well tonight, the sound is almost unlistenable. There is so much distance with the band, but the audience on a whole isn't too loud at all. There is tape hiss which really detracts more than adds more than anything else, and there is just so much distortion that I don't really know where to start from. I think with all of the distance and distortion cleared up, this would be a great little recording here because of the rarity and the performance, but the sound is just absolutly dreadful, but not completely unlistenable. There is some clear moments, but not too many that would make this an enjoyable recording. The only reason to get this is because of the rare venue and such, and because the performance is excellent, casual collectors will hate this recording with a passion.

Comments: This Permanent Waves show is one of the much more enjoyable shows from the whole tour, with an okay sound and good performance to match. There is a more enjoyable sound range than that of Generations lost, but dosen't come close to Montreal or the Oden shows, but its nice to have because its here. There is some tape hiss, mid-range distortion, and some distance with the overall band, but this is still enjoyable. The performance here is decent, with a blistering version of "Hemispheres" and a few other songs, but there alot better performances because most of it is very flat. The Radio Promo is a tiny bonus that really isn't to bad nor good to have in your collection. I think this is in the middle section of all of the Permanent Waves shows, but this is still a great recording that you might listen to for a long time.

Comments: Another great, scratch that, another excellent U.K. Rush bootleg, which is really rare to find. Many of the U.K./Europe shows sound terrible, to say the least. On the Bar and The Big Ben sound fantastic compared to the rest of the shows, and they both sound great for Permanent Waves shows as well. The sound here is nothing short of a miracle, not to distant, and not to bad sounding at all. The performance here is definatly better than Big Ben, they give a better show, so to speak of. Either the band is really sounding good tonight, playing really uptempo and fast, or there is a speed problem. Nothing really to dramatic. There is no tape hiss, but there might be a little distance, but the crowd seems to be quiet for the most part. I think that this is definatly in the better section of the Permanent Waves shows, along with The Big Ben, Setting the Course, and Distant Overture. Only available in SHN format. A must have.

Comments: Probably the best sounding complete show from the Permanent Waves shows, but the 2/14/80 show is so much better sound-wise. This is the 3rd night of the tour, so you can expect some flubs with the performance, but overall very good performance. The sound quality here is also excellent, but there are some problems that may get a little distracting at times. There is some tape hiss, but nothing extremely noticable, but still definatly there. There is, also, some bass distortion, because there might have been a problem with Geddy's moniter tonight. The mix is exceptional. Geddy is a little low in the mix, but he can be heard pretty well. The guitar is captured and well represented with this recording, as with Neil's drumming skills here. There are some tape eats that can be heard, but none of them lasting more than one second, and none of the overall music is actually gone, so we luckily get a virtually complete show here. "The Spirit of Radio" "Natural Science" and "A Passage to Bangkok" sound a tiny bit compressed here, but I think its still a great show. There are also little clicks in the recording that happen every so often, but none are very serious. Definatly one of the best from this tour.

Comments: This is definatly one of the best sounding UK shows out there. There are really, and I mean really bad ones out there, and this one really sounds great compared to the other ones. The sound is very good, a little thin, and sometimes audience is a little loud, but it really sounds good. The performance is good, but there are some better performances out there, but this one is much, and I mean much more listenable. I don't know if this is a 1st gen or a 2nd gen source, but it sounds pretty damn good if its any of the sources. There is some tape hiss suggesting that this might be a second generation source, but I really don't care because the sound here is definatly an excellent find for any collector or any casual rush lover at that. There is also some distortion in places, and the overall sound is a tad mushy. I really recommend this.

Comments: This is definatly not a bad show, but its definatly not the greatest. The sound is pretty good, nothing to complain about except for some distortion that can get a little out of hand and somewhat annoying after a while. There are also little specks of sound, I would call them, that come up in the show with the taper. The performance isn't top-notch or anything, but its okay. I think they just saw it as a standard for the tour, and not something important like the 02-14-1980 show, which was a great performance. But, all in all, there is really nothing to be mad about with this bootleg, but its just a little off from being the best.

Comments: The only reason to get this is because its a rare source, but its definatly not worth picking up for the sound. There is a great deal of overall high end and low end distortion, and there is a very large amount of audience noise, but at least you know the performance was great. The sound is also very muffled, as you will. The band is barely even heard for the first few songs. But after about 10 songs (I can't recall any of the songs played, being that I have only listened to it for at least only one time) it starts to get a little better, as you can hear Geddy's voice and the guitar break into the mix. The drums are very lost in the mix, as I listened, so its not so drum heavy, which means the drum solo is bearly heard. Not a Permenant Waves bootleg that I would pick up at first sight, only for people who need everything.

Comments: This is the second best version of this show that I own. The sound is much better than The Spirit of St. Louis. The sound is much fuller, and has more depth. The only reason that this isn't the best one is that it has a little bit of a muffled sound at the beginning, but starts to fade away when the guitar in Overture start. And, as I have said before, the performance for this date is definatly excellent. Overall, a must-have.

Comments: There is a better version of this show, called Timeless Wavelength- Platinum Edition I am looking for that boot this I just stated, if you may like a trade, e-mail me (now I have it, check above reviews). Overall, this has a solid sound, and the selist is really great, with only B,B&B cut, but it has a good fade in effect. There is a good amount of distortion in the low end, if you listen closely enough, you will get a good hear of it, but it won't be all that great, to say the least. I think I should talk about the performance. This thing has an excellent show, they really sound like their giving it their all tonight, as Geddy sings really nice tonight, and the taper really captures it, but definatly, in no way perfectly. You should get this if your a collector.

Comments: In my mind, this is the definitive Permenant Waves bootleg. The sound is almost perfect, it litterally sounds like it was really released. The only bad thing about this show is that its incomplete, but every February 14, 1980 show is incomplete, but this one is the best sounding. The band also had a pretty strong performance as well, so thats great to capture a great performance. There is virtually no distortion what-so-ever with this recording, that is really why it sounds so good. "Xanadu" sounds really good, for the record. Overall, you have to get it!!!

Comments: I don't care for this one because its a little short. Though it is a soundboard, it really sounds like a second gen audience recording, but definatly not a really bad one. The sound is actually very distant, being that it is a board, but then after a few songs the sound is okay, but its a little muffled and it has some hiss. The instruments come in fine, but its a little bit of a boring performance. I don't think that they really sounded to good tonight, so I really don't think this thing should of even been recorded. I only recommend this to people who like boring shows.

Comments: This is one of the many sources of the St. Louis 2 14 80 show. This is the only one of the only ones that I have found, and this is all I really need, until I got the Remastered edition, which the review is above. The sound is pretty nice, full, and Rush was very energetic that night. But this one is lacking the punch of some of the other shows from this date that the other ones seem to have, but this one leaves out. I think this is still a great little recording here, but not perfect be any means. The performance here is excellent, as described with all the other recordings of this show that I have. This one, as I have said before, lacks punch. I highly recommend this one to anyone.

Hi There!
I'm wondering if any kind Rush fan out there could help me. I was at the June 15 show (Generations Lost) and I've been trying to get hold of a copy of this for years. If anyone would be willing to share the mp3s I would be most grateful. Also, as the quality of recording is apparently so poor, I would like to get hold of the Feb 2nd (Timeless Wavelength) or June 5th (On the Bar) show just so I can hear what "my" show sounded like. Can anyone help? Please! I have lots of other stuff I can trade in return. Many thanks.
Okay, MC, e-mail me at vaughrush@hotmail.com and I'll see what you got, and maybe we can trade.
